Subsidiaries


SunExpress was founded in October 1989 as a subsidiary company of Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines. Today, SunExpress is the market leader in charter flights between Germany and Turkey as well as one of the largest scheduled carriers between Europe and southern Turkey.
 

As of May 1st 2010, SunExpress completed its 20th anniversary year. At the start of the next 20 years, the company announced that it refreshed and strengthened its brand identity and offerings to customers.


AnadoluJet is a trademark of Turkish Airlines used for flight out of Ankara Esenboga and Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen. The airline was founded on 23 April 2008 as a low-cost branch of the Turkish national airline, originally being equipped with a fleet of four Boeing 737-400 aircraft.

 
B&H Airlines is an airline with its head office in the Energoinvest Building in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, operating scheduled services, charter passenger services and small cargo services. 

The airline was founded on 12 August 1994 as Air Bosna. In the autumn of 2003, the airline ceased operations due to an increased debt that it could no longer repay. It remained defunct until May 2004, when the Government of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina promised to revive it. In June 2005 restarted operations as B&H Airlines, operating a pair of ATR-72 aircraft.

On 29 October 2008, the Bosnian government announced that Turkish Airlines had been picked as the best bidder in an auction for B&H Airlines shares. Turkish Airlines has proposed covering the cost of leasing two Boeing aircraft and taking over a government loan as conditions of obtaining an increased stake in the company.

 
Based at Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport, Turkish Technic is the leading aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services company in the region. Certified through EASA 145, JAA 145, FAA and Turkish DGCA for the performance of maintenance services, Turkish Technic offers a variety of maintenance services through its diversified shops, including airframe heavy maintenance, engine and APU overhaul, LDG overhaul, etc.
 

As the only one-stop shop in the region and with its wide range of back shops certified for over 4,000 Boeing and 4,000 Airbus aircraft components, Turkish Technic offers customers A to Z maintenance services from its base at Istanbul Atatürk Airport.

Within its two wide & narrow-body hangars and one VIP & light aircrafts hangar in Istanbul, and one narrow-body hangar in Ankara, Turkish Technic provides maintenance services to its business partners, airlines, lessors and financial institutions.

With over 77 years of experience and more than 3,000 qualified employees, Turkish Technic offers you the advantage of using an integrated maintenance, repair and overhaul complex complete with comprehensive services.

 
Turkish Ground Services Inc. took its place in the ground services sector on January 1, 2010. TGS, established in partnership with Turkish Airlines and HAVAS, operates its activities in total of six airports including Istanbul Ataturk Airport, Ankara Esenboga Airport, Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, Antalya Airport, Adana Airport and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport.
 

TGS, aiming to offer service to aircrafts of domestic and foreign airline companies over 300.000 frequencies, provide all operations within the scope of ground services in international quality standards by its more than three thousand equipment and six thousand staff.

TGS that renders ramp, operation, cargo and passenger services within the framework of the "Ground Services Regulation" adopts the perfect service understanding while basing customer and passenger satisfaction as the company policy. 

TGS has ISO 9001:2008 quality certificate meaning international quality management standards as per 2010. TGS documents the service quality via audits in head office at 6 stations by independent auditing companies TÜV Thüringen and Meyer.


Turkish Engine Center (“TEC”) is a joint venture between Pratt & Whitney and Turkish Technic
for the maintenance overhaul and repair of CFM56 and V2500 engines. TEC is located at Istanbul’s 2nd international airport Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) on the Anatolian (Asian) part. It started its operations in January 2010 and designed and build have an annual capacity of 200 shop visits. Facility is comprised approximately 25,000 m² (250,000 square feet), bigger than three soccer fields. TEC currently employs approximately 245 employees. Its repair capabilities, an information technology system along with the methodology in engine overhaul practices will provide maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services to airline customers in Turkey, the European and Middle Eastern regions, as well as other countries around the world.

 
Since 2007, TURKISH DO & CO is operating nine gourmet kitchens all over Turkey: Istanbul (Atatürk und Sabiha Gökcen), Ankara, Antalya, Izmir, Bodrum, Trabzon, Dalaman and Adana. Over 60 national and international airlines are catered from these locations.

Former Subsidiaries

Here are the former subsidiaries of Turkish Airlines. These companies are sold, shot down or integrated into Turkish Airlines.


Boğaziçi Hava Taşımacılığı (BHT), named after the Boshphorus
, was a Turkish charter cargo/passenger airline that operated for two years starting in 1987.

BHT was 85% owned by Turkish Airlines and began services with a Douglas DC-10-10F and a Boeing 707-321C. Freight charters were flown to America, Europe, Asia and Africa. The aircraft were also used for passenger services serving Turkish migrant workers traveling home. BHT also had a leased Boeing 727-264, but by 1989 the airline was in severe financial problems and shut down.


Kıbrıs Türk Hava Yolları (KTHY) was a Turkish Cypriot airline that was the flag carrier for the Turkish-occupied northern part of Cyprus, and was based in the Turkish sector of Nicosia
. Cyprus Turkish Airlines was also the main airline that flew passengers to the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus until its collapse in June 2010.

Cyprus Turkish Airlines was established on 4 December 1974 in Nicosia with shares equally divided between THY and the Cash Development of the Consolidated Fund of the Assembly of the Turkish Cypriot Community (Konsolide Fonu Inkisaf Sandigi). The first scheduled flight was operated on the 3 February 1975. In 2005 the Turkish government sold its shareholding to Ada Havayollari.

To avoid bankruptcy due to a $100 million debt, the management had decided to sell the company in June 2010. After the end of the bidding period, the Turkish carrier Atlasjet was the only bidder.

On 21 June 2010, the airline announced via their website that they had ceased all operations until further notice and eight days later, on 29 June 2010 it was announced that the airline had gone out of business.


Türk Hava Ta
şımacılığı was an Ankara based regional airline, founded as a joint venture between Turkish Aviation Association and Turkish Airlines. The airline started initially with two Antonov An-24 aircraft, but soon these aircraft were replaced with five British Aerospace BAe ATP turboprops.

THT wasn’t profitable, so the airline was integrated into Turkish Airlines. All BAe Avro jetliners ordered by THT were transferred to Turkish Airlines, explaining the exceptional registration numbers of these jets.

Kuzey Kıbrıs Hava Yolları (KKHY) was founded by the Turkish Cypriot government of the de facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) shortly after the bankruptcy of Cyprus Turkish Airlines (KTHY) in June 2010.

According to Turkish Cypriot authorities, 60% of all shares will belong to the private sector and 30% will be owned publicly. In accordance with an agreement with the national flag carrier airline of Turkey, Turkish Airlines will own the remaining 10% of shares in the newly established North Cyprus Airlines and will be responsible for supplying new fleet to the airliner. KKHY will start operations with an initial $15,000,000 budget and as an affiliate member of the Star Alliance group.
